8th annual Rankin Cancer Run

On Saturday, 11,000 people took part in the 8th annual Rankin Cancer Run in St. Catharines to show their support in the fight against the disease.

Participants were a mix comprised of cancer survivors and others who know people that have battled the disease, but all ran to raise funds and awareness in the continuing fight.

“This is an awesome event it raises awareness and keeps money in the community where it needs to be,” said Neil Jones who had part of his jaw removed and replaced with a bone from his leg after being diagnosed with cancer.

Totals for how much money raised at this year’s event aren’t available yet, but in the past seven years organizers say they’ve raised more than $3 million.

Today’s event wasn’t about winning or losing, which Jones says is much different from a battling cancer. “People who say winning isn’t everything never had cancer, because then it’s the only thing.”
