79-year-old dies after losing control of ATV in Dunnville: OPP

Haldimand County OPP say that a 79-year-old driver has died a day after they lost control of an ATV in Dunnville.

Officers say the driver of Haldimand County and a 49-year-old Hamilton passenger were travelling along Melick Rd. around 7:30 p.m. when the driver of the ATV lost control and struck a tree, throwing off both the driver and passenger.

As a result of the collision, police say the driver suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital and then air-lifted to a Hamilton hospital for further treatment.

The passenger was also taken to hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Officers say the driver of the ATV was pronounced dead in hospital Thursday.

OPP continue to investigate this incident. They say speed and alcohol are being considered as contributing factors.
