The Akwesasne Mohawk Police service says a child is missing after the bodies of six migrants of Romanian and Indian descent were pulled from St. Lawrence River Thursday.
The bodies, including that of a child under three, were found in the river in part of Akwesasne located in Quebec, says Mohawk police.
Officers say the migrants were attempting to enter the United States illegally from Canada.

Akwesasne straddles the border, and it is known for being a transit point for the trafficking of humans and contraband due to its location.
Officers say there have been 48 cases of people trying to cross illegally into Canada or the United States through the territory since January.
