Five people were taken to hospital after a crash on the 403 Monday evening.
It happened in the westbound lanes west of Waterdown Road — and scattered glass and debris across the highway. Emergency crews were called to the scene just after 6:30pm. Police say an officer was already pulled over to the side of the highway to investigate an earlier crash when suddenly another car hit the vehiles causing a chain reaction involving seven other vehicles. Several of the cars involved were badly damaged. A red vehicle which was unrecognizable — was a Toyota Yaris.
Constable Graham Williamson is with the OPP: “As a result of this major collision, we had a number of injuries. Right now, we’re looking at two adults, a man and a woman with life threating and 3 children with non-life threatening injuries.”
A team is now investigating the crash. Traffic was blocked in the area when crews first arrived. And delays have continued to be long throughout the evening. But the lanes have re-opened in the past hour. There’s no word on any charges at this point but police say that alcohol was not a factor.
