2nd victim dies of injuries after weekend shooting in St. Catharines

Police say a 40-year-old woman has succumbed to her injuries in hospital following a shooting in St. Catharines Saturday night that also left another man dead.

Officers responded around 9:30 p.m. to the area of St. Paul St. West and Louth St. where they found a 56-year-old man and woman suffering from gunshot wounds.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the woman was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say the woman died in hospital Thursday.

Niagara police are not releasing the identities of the victims at the request of their family.

On Tuesday, investigators initially arrested and charged 46-year-old Donovan Williams of Brampton with first-degree murder, attempted murder and failing to comply with undertaking.

Following the death of the woman, Williams has now been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and failing to comply with undertaking.

Williams remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in a St. Catharines court Friday.

Police say early information suggests the shooting was targeted and there is no risk to public safety.
