Niagara police have arrested a 27-year-old man after a woman was stabbed at a Fort Erie residence Saturday morning.

On Jan. 24 at approximately 5:45 a.m., officers were called to a residence on George Road for a disturbance. On the way there, they received information that a woman had been stabbed several times and fled the residence.

Upon arriving on scene, authorities say they evacuated victims and neighbouring apartments.

One woman was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries, and a second woman was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Police began negotiating with a man involved in the incident who eventually exited the residence and was arrested without incident around 10:20 a.m.

As a result, 27-year-old Patrick Sassano of Fort Erie is facing the following charges:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Intimidation by Violence
  • Assault (two counts)

Investigators say the victim and man allegedly responsible for the stabbing are known to each other – they add there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
