25th anniversary of Quebec referendum

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the referendum that nearly resulted in Quebec separating from the rest of Canada.
On Oct. 30 1995, 4.7 million Quebecers voted on whether the province should become sovereign.
The “no” side squeaked out a razor-thin victory that captured less than 51 per cent of the ballots.
The vote was the second referendum in 15 years and is considered the high-water mark of the separatist movement.
