25th anniversary of Montreal Massacre

Saturday marked the 25th anniversary of the Montreal massacre.
On December 6th, 1989 Marc Lepine walked into the engineering class at L’Ecole Polytechnique, separated the women from the men and opened fire.
14 women were gunned down simply because they were women.
It was the worst mass murder in Canadian history.
On Saturday Hamiltonians took part in the national day of remembrance and action on violence against women to honour those lives cut short and to raise awareness.
On Saturday the transition house “Circle of Honour” hosted a ceremony to remember and call for action.
Hamilton police say this year there were more than 5,000 incidents of domestic violence reported in Hamilton and more than 1,000 arrests.
