2 people arrested in human trafficking investigation: Niagara police

Niagara police say two 28-year-olds from Thorold have been arrested in a human trafficking investigation.

Investigators say they searched a home on Esther Crescent in Thorold on Wednesday. They found various drug-trafficking equipment, $7,015 in proceeds of crime and suspected fentanyl worth approximately $40,000.

Police arrested two people in connection with the investigation. Shaquelle Fitzroy Haughton and Jade Charley are facing several trafficking-related charges.

The charges include advertising sexual services, trafficking someone over 18, possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.

Haughton is also facing charges for failing to comply with a release order.

Both Haughton and Charley were held in custody for a video bail hearing in a St. Catharines courthouse on Wednesday.

Police say Charley has a second court date on Thursday, while Haughton has another court date on Friday.

Investigators suspect there may be more victims. They say Charley is known to frequent Brantford, Woodstock, Sarnia, northern Ontario, the Greater Toronto Area and Winnipeg.
