2 officers undergo surgery, another in hospital after fatal B.C. bank shooting

Police kept an area near a bank in Saanich, B.C. evacuated overnight as they continue to investigate a possible explosive device connected to a deadly gunfight with two suspected bank robbers.

Officers shot and killed both suspects as they responded to the robbery and six police were injured.

Chief Const. Dean Duthie said two officers were seriously hurt and underwent surgery Tuesday.

A third officer is also in hospital.

Duthie said Greater Victoria’s emergency response team was close to the Bank of Montreal when the armed robbery call came in and were on scene in time to confront the suspects.

Social media videos show dozens of shots were fired and police have set up an online site to gather videos taken by witnesses.
