2 charged after Halton police seize handgun, illegal drugs

Two people are facing numerous charges after Halton police seized a handgun and a variety of drugs.

The investigation dubbed “Project Wander” saw police’s drug and human trafficking unit execute search warrants last Wednesday and Thursday at a home in Halton Hills, as well as a condominium and self-storage unit in Mississauga.

Officers recovered methamphetamine, purple fentanyl, cocaine, oxycodone pills, a loaded Glock 27 prohibited compact handgun, $20,000 in Canadian cash, among other things.

Gurkamal Khakh, 25, of Mississauga has been charged with seven separate offences, including four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Tavleen Towana, 24, of British Columbia is facing six separate charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking and careless use of a firearm (storage).

Both were held pending a bail hearing on Sept. 6.

At the time of his arrest, Khakh was under a firearm prohibition order with conditions not to possess any firearms.
