Ontario Provincial Police say two 15-year-old girls were caught driving after they tried to avoid a RIDE program in Huron County.

Officers stationed at a checkpoint around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday spotted a vehicle pull a U-turn to try and avoid the program.

“The alert officer noticed the suspicious move and took after the vehicle,” said OPP in a news release. “A traffic stop was conducted and when it came time to hand over a driver’s licence, the driver ran into a little problem.”

Police discovered the driver and passenger were only 15 years old, and the driver had taken her parents car without their permission.

A guardian came to the scene to get the vehicle and the teenagers.

The 15-year-old driver will now have to complete a Youth Diversionary Program to avoid being charged.
