Hamilton police are cracking down on violence, drug activity and firearms in the city.

Chief Frank Bergen says officers have seized more than 14 firearms in the last two weeks and police have laid numerous firearm-related charges.

Police say hundreds of rounds of ammunition, cash, counterfeit currency, tasers, a grenade and more than $31.5 million in drugs have been seized in these investigations.

“The proliferation of guns in our community poses an increased safety risk for our officers and the public,” said Superintendent Martin Schulenberg in a news release.

Police say they are working to end gun violence and illegal gun possession which accounts for the majority of gun crimes being committed in Hamilton.

Investigators say they will not be releasing any further information at this time as the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information about gun violence or any crime is asked to contact Hamilton police at 905-546-4925.
