A two-day hearing set to begin today will determine the punishment to be faced by the highest ranking officer involved in the mass arrests that marred the G20 summit.

Toronto police Superintendent Mark Fenton is to be sentenced for discreditable conduct and ordering unlawful arrests during the weekend summit in June 2010. The prosecution wants him demoted for a year, while some of the people who were detained or kettled for hours during a torrential downpour want him fired.

The officer himself says a reprimand would be enough or, at most, the loss of five vacation days.
