World Tennis Scandal

There is a scandal brewing in the world of tennis.

According to documents passed along to BuzzFeed and the BBC,  it has exposed evidence of widespread match fixing at the top level of world tennis including Wimbledon.

Over the last decade, 16 players who have ranked in the top 50 have been repeatedly flagged that they have thrown matches.  All these players, including Grand Slam Winners, were allowed to continue to compete.

No names have been released around these documents yet.

Novak Djokovic has just recently commented on the scandal and says that someone tried to offer Djokovic roughly $200,000 to lose a first round match at a tournament in St. Petersburg, Russia.  He claims that he wasn’t approached directly but through people that were working with him at the time.

He has made it very clear that the offer was flat-out rejected.

A number of players reacted to the BuzzFeed and the BBC report that says there has been widespread match-fixing in men’s tennis and that authorities in the sport ignored it.   There is a core group of 16 suspected men who have been ranked in the top 50, including a US Open champion.
