10th annual Welland Float Fest cancelled due to safety concerns

The 10th annual Welland Float Fest has been cancelled just nine days before it was set to take place due to safety concerns.

Organizers posted a statement on their Facebook page Thursday saying, “Without the full cooperation and support of all stakeholders to create a safe environment, we cannot embark on this beautiful and enjoyable annual Welland event.”

It means that food and shopping vendors, music performances and the fireworks display have been cancelled at the Welland International Flatwater Centre.

Organizers say they hope to bring the event back next year.
