$100 million donation to The Centre of Addiction and Mental Health

The Centre of Addiction and Mental Health received an anonymous donation today of $100 million.
“This is the beginning of a whole new era in how we think about and how we approach mental illness.” Dr. Catherine Zahn, President and CEO.
But they don’t know who to thank! The anonymous person give CAMH a lump sum donation of $100 million, by far the largest financial gift given to any mental health facility in the country. With an overall operating budget of $300 million per year, these funds will be funnelled directly into research.
“We’re going to invest in people. In the scientists that are able to advance our knowledge of the underlying mechanisms of mental illness and will also invest in clinical scientists to bring that new knowledge into practice.”
