One suspect remains outstanding following an hours-long police search for a man wanted in connection with a targeted shooting Thursday morning on west Hamilton Mountain.

Hamilton police Sgt. Steve Bereziuk says a 38-year-old man called police around 7:30 a.m. after he was shot in the area of Juanita Drive, near Garth Street and Mohawk Road West.

Paramedics transported him to hospital, where he remains in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

Hamilton police quickly arrived to the scene and located two suspects in a vehicle, which was later deemed stolen.

Officers say they arrested a 17-year-old boy and recovered a firearm.

The second suspect ran away from the scene, initiating a six-hour search for him involving Hamilton police, Halton police and Ontario Provincial Police.

People were told to avoid the Chedoke Radial Trail between Scenic Drive and the Chedoke Golf Club. Investigators could also been seen near Highway 403 looking through the woods.

Officers called off their search shortly after 1 p.m. and cleared the area near the golf course.

Detectives describe the suspect as a Black man who was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, dark blue pants and a blue surgical mask at the time of the shooting. If seen, call 911 immediately.

Police are investigating the motive of the shooting.

This marks the 27th shooting of the year so far.
