1 charged, 150 youths involved in fights at Caledonia Fairgrounds

A 16-year-old has been charged after multiple fights broke out between a group of around 150 youths at the Caledonia Fairgrounds Friday night.
Officers from the Haldimand County OPP were called to the fairgrounds on Caithness Street East around 8 p.m. for a report of multiple fights between a large group of people gathered there.
OPP say that the group consisted of around 150 youths.
Back-up was called for from Norfolk and Brant County OPP, along with the OPP Emergency Response Team, in order to break up and disperse the crowd.

There were no reports of serious injury in the incident.
At this time only one person has been charged in the incident. The unnamed 16-year-old has been charged with public intoxication.
The fights broke out on the second night of the annual Caledonia Fair held at the fairgrounds. This incident follows an increase in violence seen in youths in other nearby region’s fairs and festivals, including in Hamilton where police issued statements of concern in September.
