Canada and other countries touched by the tragedy are marking the one-year anniversary of the shooting down of Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS-752.

The flight had 176 people on board, when it was shot from the sky by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

Iran initially denied any involvement in the downing of the airliner, then admitted it was shot down by accident after mistaking it for a missile.

In a joint statement Canada, Ukraine, France, Britain and Sweden said they want Tehran “to provide a complete and thorough explanation of the events and decisions that led to this appalling plane crash.”

Iran has offered a cash settlement of $150,000 to each of the victims’ families.

Outdoor rallies are to take place in various cities, including Toronto, Montreal and Edmonton to mark the one-year anniversary.
