The Canadian Army is warning residents that they may see military vehicles on highways this weekend as convoy operation training takes place.

Personnel from 31 Service Battalion and 23 Support Company will be travelling between Feb. 3 to Feb. 5 in the areas of Hamilton, Kingston, Ottawa, Petawawa and Peterborough.

Members of the public may see military vehicles on the QEW, Hwy 407, Hwy 401, Hwy 7, Hwy 417, Hwy 28, Hwy 115 and Hwy 17.

The Army says this is regular, scheduled training that keeps Combat Service Support personnel and units ready to respond to missions in Canada such as floods and wildfires.

The training keeps members’ skills current and sharp on convoy drills, unit discipline, and on the safe and effective operation of specific vehicle platforms.

Participating personnel will stay inside their vehicles as dismounted drills are not planned.

Lt. Andrew McLaughlin says all measures are being taken to ensure minimum inconvenience in these areas during the exercise dates.

“Members of the public are asked to take extra caution when approaching military vehicles,” McLaughlin said. “And are thanked in advance for their understanding and co-operation.”
