Canada loses its opening World Cup game 0-1 against Belgium

Canada’s return to the World Cup after 36 years ended in a 0-1 defeat to Belgium in Qatar.

Canada was dominating the game and even received a penalty in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Forward Alphonso Davies stepped up to the penalty spot, but his shot was saved by Belgium’s star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Belgium then scored right before the halftime whistle. After the second half Canada was not able to take their chances.

Morocco played Croatia which resulted in a draw, meaning that even though Canada is last in the group, they are only one point behind the two teams.

Canada faces Croatia next on Nov. 27 at 11 a.m.
