Directed by Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man Holiday), Barbershop: The Next Cut is the fourth film in the Barbershop franchise started back in 2002. The film stars an ensemble cast featuring Ice Cube, Cedric the Entertainer, Regina Hall, Anthony Anderson, Eve, J. B. Smoove, Lamorne Morris, Sean Patrick Thomas, Tyga, Deon Cole, Common, and Nicki Minaj.

It’s been more than 10 years since our last appointment at Calvin’s Barbershop. Calvin (Cube) and his longtime crew, including Eddie (Cedric), are still there, but the shop has undergone some major changes. Most noticeably, the once male-dominated sanctuary is now co-ed. The ladies bring their own flavor, drama and gossip to the shop, challenging the guys at every turn. But despite the good times, big laughs and camaraderie within the shop, the surrounding community has taken a turn for the worse, forcing Calvin and his friends to come together in an effort to not only save the shop, but their neighborhood.

“Everybody has an opinion, and everybody thinks other people are interested in those opinions,” explains Cube. “Social media has proven that. But the barbershop was the community’s social media before there was social media, a place where people could express themselves and get information, like a town hall meeting or a club. Everybody wants to hear what’s going on, whatever is the subject of the day.

Barbershop: The Next Cut is rated 14A.
