Hamilton Police have arrested a man after a crime spree Sunday night.

A stolen pick-up collided with two other vehicles, causing one to hit a utility pole near Upper James and Stone Church on the mountain. Five people were sent to hospital — two of them, young children.

Police say the driver of the stolen pick-up then ran to a nearby Tim Hortons, where he stole a Blue Line taxi. The cab driver suffered minor injuries as she tried to stop him. The cab was later abandoned at the Fiesta Mall in Stoney Creek.

Martin Smith, 27, of Hamilton is facing numerous charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.
