School board holds checker tourney

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board held its 2014 checker tournament in Ancaster today. Board checker facilitator Nick Trikoupis knows the thought provoking tournament has many benefits for the participants.

“This is an annual event. It’s an opportunity for students to come together from different schools to participate in thought-provoking moves, thinking ahead, mathematical coordinates. There are a lot of expectations wrapped up in checkers that we all enjoy and kids get to represent their schools.”

The event hosts over 500 students from over 20 schools. This is the 44th annual checkers tournament for the HWDSB, making it the longest running checker tournament in North America.
