Fire destroys central Hamilton house

No one was injured in a raging fire that destroyed a house in central Hamilton this afternoon.

Police were called to the house on Emerald St N around 12:15 pm, and found it fully engulfed in flames. One person was inside at the time, but managed to get out safely.

Fire officials say it’s too early to determine the cause of the fire or a damage estimate, but they say the house is uninhabitable. It took 13 units and 25 firefighters to get the blaze under control.

Claudio Mostacci of Hamilton Fire told CHCH News, “when crews arrived on scene they found heavy fire and smoke coming from a one and a half storey home. The occupant of the home was not inside.”

“The house to the north has received some damage to the exterior. The one house has sustained severe damage.”

Emerald St N is closed at Birge St, while Birge is closed at Oak Ave.
