Police in Halton say well over half of the child car seats checked during a recent clinic in Oakville failed inspection.

The spot check found that of 49 booster seats inspected, 58% failed, and of 59 car seats inspected, 68% failed.

Issues included seats not being tethered, seats that were expired or not Canadian, and children being prematurely moved to booster seats before they weigh 40 pounds.

Police say the goal of the clinics is to ensure that all children are as safe as they can be.
