Researchers at Imperial College in the United Kingdom have made an important discovery.
People who suffer a stroke over the weekend are less likely to undergo brain scans on the day they arrive, which could have an effect on their treatment.
The so-called “weekend effect” means that these patients are also at a higher risk of death.
The study published in the archives of neurology also finds that patients admitted during the week were discharged earlier than those admitted over the weekend.
