The gas plant scandal which has hung over the Ontario Liberals for nearly five years moved a small notch closer to a trial today with lawyers appearing on the behalf of former McGuinty Deputy Chief Laura Miller, and Chief of Staff David Livingston.

After a two and a half year investigation by the OPP, the two were charged last month. The OPP investigation alleges that Miller and Livingston paid Millers boyfriend Peter Faiste $10 000 to enter the Premiers office and wipe clean government computers. Computers that contained e-mails concerning the decision to cancel construction of two gas power plants just before the 2011 election costing tax payers $1.1 billion.

The Liberals under Dalton McGuinty won a minority government in that election but the Premier resigned the following October under presser from the gas plant scandal.
