Tired surgeons
A study finds surgical residents are sleepy for at least half the day which could have an impact on their work.
27 residents recently provided researchers with their sleep/wake cycles by using a wristwatch-type instrument.
Experts found the average amount of sleep was just 5 hours and that residents were functioning at about 80% for more than half of the day because they were fatigued.
Researchers also found that those residents who worked at night were even more likely to be sleep-deprived.
