Sunscreen labelling

The FDA has extended its June deadline for sunscreen manufacturers in the U.S. to change their labeling in order to better protect consumers from sunburn.

Last summer, the agency ordered that labels only read “broad spectrum spf” if they protect against both ultraviolet a and b rays, and must eliminate the words ‘waterproof’ or sweatproof’.

However, companies are now being given six more months to complete these changes.

The FDA says without the extension, there would be sunscreen shortages throughout the U.S.
