Pollution and heart disease
A study conducted during the 2008 summer Olympics in Beijing reveals a link between air pollution and cardiovascular disease.
Researchers examined a group of healthy adults before the Beijing Olympics when air quality was low, then again during the games when pollution was restricted and a third time after pollution control ended.
The subjects had significant reductions in inflammation and blood pressure during the Olympics.
However, their blood pressure levels went back up after the games, suggesting air pollution really does harm the health of the public.
