HAPPENING NOW:

Social jetlag

Is the sound of your alarm clock in the morning affecting your health?

Researchers at the University of Munich studied a phenomenon called “social jetlag.”

Sleeping in on weekends after waking up early for work all week is a good example of it.

Scientists looked at people between the ages of 16 and 65.

They found that for most people ideal sleep timing is incompatible with the work schedules they have to follow.

As a result of this social jetlag, most people are chronically sleep-deprived.

That can lead to conditions like obesity and diabetes.

Sleep deprived people are also more likely to smoke and drink more alcohol and caffeine.
