Firefighters responded to reports of a structure fire at a Hamilton courthouse Thursday morning.

Crews were called to John Sopinka Courthouse shortly before 9 a.m.

They discovered a roofing tar pot was on fire at the back of the building.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the blaze and began to check the smoke conditions inside.

Some neighbouring buildings were evacuated while crews worked to clear the smoke.

Two lanes were closed on Main St. in front of the courthouse and Hughson St. is closed between Main and King streets.
