HAPPENING NOW:

Contaminated beef recall

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued a nation-wide warning for the public to not consume certain beef products due to possible E.coli contamination.

The agency advises the public to check for products bearing the establishment number 761 made between July 1, 2011 and February 15, 2012 at that facility.

The directory of registered meat establishments lists Saskatoon-based New Food Classics as the company linked to the establishment number 761.

In addition to the establishment number, the possibly contaminated products can also be identified by best before dates between January 1, 2012 and February 15, 2013, or a five-digit lot code where the last four digits are 1831 or higher.

Food contaminated with E.coli may not look or smell spoiled but can cause serious and potentially life-threatening illnesses. Symptoms include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea.
