Weekend ice storm woes continue into Monday

A rainfall warning is in effect for Hamilton Monday morning, following this weekend’s blast of winter.

Environment Canada is expecting heavy rain, with rainfall amounts between 20 to 30 mm before it begins to taper off.

Parts of Hamilton are already dealing with flooding.

The City of Hamilton is asking residents to clear catch basins of snow and ice and say residents can report flooding to the contact centre at 905-546-2489.

A mix of snow, freezing rain, ice pellets, rain and powerful winds battered southern and central Ontario Saturday and Sunday.

It created treacherous road conditions and left tens of thousands in the dark.

Hydro One is working to reconnect thousands of customers still without power Monday morning.

Crews are mainly dealing with power lines and poles downed by high winds.

While many schools are closed, officials are asking those that do have to go out to give themselves extra time and be extra cautious for the morning commute.
