Hamilton’s Neighbour2Neighbour Centre is asking the city for funding.

Neighbour2Neighbour offers a variety of services aimed at tackling the issue of food insecurity.

Because of COVID-19 restrictions, some of those services are now virtual or on hold, but it still offers an affordable produce market twice a week and takeout meals three times a week for the city’s vulnerable population.

The centre is asking the city for $200,000 a year for the next five years to continue to serve the community.

Its overall budget is $700,000 a year, which is supported in part by the federal government and through fundraising efforts.

Hamilton’s General Issues Committee is considering the request and has asked city staff to report back on Feb. 11.
