Niagara police investigating hit-and-run in St. Catharines

An elderly woman is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after a hit-and-run in St. Catharines Thursday evening.

Niagara police officers were called to the area of Queenston St. and Woodburn Ave. around 5:45 p.m.

They say an 89-year-old woman was crossing the street when she was hit by a driver in a light-coloured vehicle.

The driver did not stop and the vehicle was last seen travelling eastbound on Queenston St.

Police say there is video of the woman being struck and officers have been speaking to witnesses.

The woman was taken to an out of region hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Detectives are asking anyone who has video cameras in the area or who has any information to contact police at 905-688-4111 ext. 1005591.
