Young stroke victims and statins

Medication used to lower cholesterol may help young stroke survivors avoid another stroke.

Researchers in Finland followed over two hundred people who suffered a stroke between the ages of fifteen and forty-nine.

They found those who took a statin at some point after their stroke were 77% less likely to experience another one.

Statins are generally prescribed to help lower a persons cholesterol.

Experts say the study was small, but young stroke patients should consider statins as a potential preventative therapy.
