Update: Police say report of an attempted abduction in Vineland fabricated

On Tuesday morning, Niagara Regional Police were called to the town of Lincoln for reports of a possible attempted abduction of a 16-year-old boy by an armed suspect.

After further investigation, police say there was no threat to the public and the report was fabricated.

A stolen 2004 black Chevy Avalanche with front end damage was found at the scene, police say the vehicle is believed to have been stolen from Haldimand.

Schools in the area of King Street and Nineteenth Street instituted safety protocols as a precaution.

Around 1 p.m. Niagara Regional Police reported the area was safe and the safety protocols at the schools were lifted.

The 16-year-old male from Lincoln has been charged with public mischief, theft of a motor vehicle and theft under $5,000, he is scheduled to appear in court in October.
