Using mice to study diabetes
A Toronto-based study on mice might lead to a new treatment for type one diabetes in people.
Researchers have found a natural chemical in mice that is generated by the same cells that produce insulin in the pancreas.
The researchers feel that chemical could prevent and reverse type one diabetes.
The mice were injected with the natural chemical in a study led by researchers at St. Michael’s Hospital.
While the findings might eventually be applied to people with diabetes, the treatment still needs to go through a clinical trial.
