Police find inmate mistakenly released from Barton Street Jail

Hamilton police say a man mistakenly released from the jail on Barton St. has been found after evading police capture for over a week.

Shawn Delaney, 45, of Hamilton was released from the Hamilton-Wentworth Detention Centre on Mar. 3 due to an administrative error.

Investigators said Delaney was aware of the mistake and avoiding police.

A police spokesperson told CHCH News that Delaney has been convicted of both violent and non-violent crimes.

The Ministry of the Solicitor General is investigating the cause of the improper release.
