Halton police have arrested a man in connection with a catalytic converter theft investigation.
On May 19, police received a call for a suspicious motor vehicle with three men at an industrial lot in Milton. The vehicle then fled at a high rate of speed and struck a curb causing significant damage to one of its tires.
Shortly after, officers located the suspect vehicle abandoned and unoccupied in the area of Trafalgar Road and Steeles Avenue. Inside, officer found tools consistent with the theft of catalytic converters.
Over the next months, investigators authorized nine judicial authorizations and as a result, a suspect was identified. On Sept. 8, police arrested 22-year-old Ray Cako of Etobicoke. He has been charged with four counts of theft under $5,000, four counts of mischief under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under 5,000 and possession of break in instruments.
During the investigation, 11 catalytic converters, two reciprocating saws, multiple batteries and blades were seized. Eight of the 11 seized catalytic converter were returned to their rightful owners.
