In celebration of International Women’s Day tomorrow, two-time Olympic boxer and Team Everlast captain, Mandy Bujold joined us with ways on how women can build physical strength to match their inner strength and train ‘like a girl’.

As a two-time Olympian and Pan American Games competitor – Bujold is the only female boxer in history to win two Pan American Games titles and is now an 11-time Canadian Champion, the longest-reigning Canadian champion in history.

Lunge with a Twist

Bujold says she is adding the twist to the lunge because people have been sitting at home more because of the pandemic and may not be doing as much side-to-side motion. This exercise is great to wakeup muscles that may be dormant from sitting too long.

Once you lunge forward, the further you hold the medicine ball out, the more resistance. Then, in the forward lunge position, twist your body to the side to activate your core.

Axe Chops with Med Ball

Bujold says if you’re a mom who carries your kids around all day, this is a great workout to strengthen your core.

Hold the medicine ball in both hands, bend to the side as if you are picking something off of the ground, then stand up straight and raise the medicine ball to the sky in the opposite direction.

Squat Jumps

Bujold says this workout is an explosive movement that is great to release endorphins and give you energy to take on your day.

Wrap an loop band around both knees and then do a regular squat. This will activate the glutes and you can add a little jump when you stand up as an extra explosive exercise.

Shadow boxing

This is Bujold’s favourite exercise. with a loop band around your legs, get into a boxing stance with both arms up in front of your face, then throw punches. The loop band adds extra resistance in your legs.
