Brant County mayor talks health hub and Handmaid’s Tale

We picked up where we left off a couple weeks ago with the mayor of the County of Brant, David Bailey, discussing the health hub and The Handmaid’s Tale.

There is a health hub being built at the top of the high level bridge coming into Paris.

“It was built with conservation in mind, it has solar panels and it is self sufficient,” said Bailey.

He says the health hub as many of the health services people in rural areas will need all in one place.

The Handmaid’s Tale series has been filming in Brant County. Bailey’s house is being used as the house of Commander Lawrence in the show.

“We’re going to be doing the next two seasons,” said Bailey. “When they’re shooting outside I can stay around the house…but I have stayed at a little boutique hotel in Paris, The Arlington, and I have also had to rent an apartment across the street from my house above one of the shops.”

He says the production has made a replica of his house on Jane Street in Toronto that is around 25 per cent bigger than the actual house. They used most of the antiques around his house to decorate the set.

“This is as big as it gets,” said Bailey, “it’s Hollywood, it’s well done and Elizabeth Moss is so talented and they are all a very friendly supportive cast and I’m glad that my house will always have that in its history now.”
