Niagara Falls is getting its own hospice, marking what the city calls a significant step toward expanding access to compassionate end-of-life care in the community.

A new residential hospice is planned for Niagara Falls following a partnership between the city and the Hotel Dieu Shaver Health and Rehabilitation Centre.

At a ceremony on Monday, the city revealed a sign identifying the proposed site of Millie’s Place.

The 10-bed residential facility will be built on Montrose Road, right beside the new South Niagara Hospital, which is set to open in the summer of 2028.

The $20-million project is said to be privately funded through a capital campaign.

Niagara philanthropist and real-estate developer Stewart Branscombe donated $3 million to the project, with the facility to be named after his late mother, Millie.

City officials say the new Ministry of Health-backed residential hospice will bridge local service gaps, allowing residents to receive end-of-life care close to their loved ones.
