A Burlington woman has cemented her spot in the Guinness World Record books by taking part in more than 600 spin classes in a single year.

Twenty-one-year-old Gracie Sakran took up the exercise two years ago to lose weight, and never looked back.

Sakran loves spin class, but that wasn’t the case two years ago.

“I genuinely did not like it, I couldn’t get through one song. The more I came, the easier it got. It went from barely being able to do one class to doing upwards of four to five a day simply because I love doing it,” relects Sakran.

Gracie began spinning as part of a weight-loss journey.

She says she weighed 340 pounds two years ago, and has dropped more than a hundred pounds.

Last December Sakran set a Guinness World Record for most spin classes attended in a year, at 660.

“I just needed to do it in my lifetime. I needed to see if I could achieve it,” says Sakran

She says the weight loss was just a bonus.

“As a young girl who was 340 pounds, you’re always tugging your shirt, picking up your tights, you just never feel comfortable walking down the road. I ended up feeling more confident and more comfortable than ever, not because of how much weight I was losing but, also, the people in there made me feel confident in myself,” she says.

Riding a stationary bike takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and a never-say-quit attitude.

“Something I’ve learned doing this is you have to push when you don’t want to be pushed anymore. You gotta see what you’re body is capable of, and see where you can grow from it,” says Sakran.

The full-time university student set the record by going to SPINCO in Hamilton, Ancaster and Burlington.

She topped out at seven classes in one day.

Now that she’s in the record books Sakran’s going to slow her peddling down just a bit, but never stop spinning.
