Niagara police charged a Thorold man Thursday in connection with a drug trafficking investigation in St. Catharines.

Officers say they launched the probe earlier this summer and allege the man was seen exhibiting behaviour consistent with drug trafficking.

Investigators arrested 20-year-old Iverson Kalombo in the area of Duke Street and Wellington Court, and executed search warrants at a home on Queenston Street and a BMW SUV that was driven by the suspect.

Detectives say as part of the search, they seized:

  • 290 grams of suspected fentanyl, with a street value of $29,000;
  • 188 grams of suspected cocaine, with a street value of $18,000; and
  • $2,000 in Canadian currency.

Kalombo has been charged with offences including possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to attend a bail hearing at a St. Catharines courthouse Friday.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009558.
