Provincial police say they have charged an 81-year-old man with murder more than two years after his son went missing.

Police say officers started investigating on Jan. 7, 2024 after a family member reported they were unable to reach a 58-year-old man from Norland, Ont., and were concerned for his well-being.

They say the man remained missing despite an extensive search and investigation.

Police say they eventually gathered information that led them to suspect foul play.

They say the 81-year-old father of the missing man, who lives in Peterborough, Ont., was charged on Wednesday with second-degree murder and indignity to a dead body.

Police say the accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court next week.
