Bridge in Kingston, Ont., shut down after police shooting, no word on injuries

KINGSTON — Police in Kingston, Ont., say they were involved in a shooting on the Waaban Crossing which shut down the bridge Wednesday morning.

The force released few details about the shooting, and did not say how many officers were involved or if there were any injuries or fatalities.

Police say there is no risk to public safety but the bridge spanning the Great Cataraqui River will be closed in both directions for an extended period of time.

Police say the shooting happened at approximately 9:40 a.m.

Kingston police say they have reached out to the Special Investigations Unit, which probes serious incidents involving Ontario police forces.

The Canadian Press has reached out to the police watchdog for comment but did not immediately hear back.
